Members of the Electoral Commission

Speeches

The Supervisor of Elections;
Registered Officers;

Representatives from Political Parties;
Ladies and Gentlemen

Miau Sa Bula Re, and a very good morning to you all.

It is my pleasure to be here today to provide an overview of the Electoral Commission’s newly developed Rules and Procedures.

The Electoral Commission has developed a comprehensive set of Rules and Procedures to guide its adjudicative functions, which includes the determination of appeals, objections, and applications for review of decisions made by the Supervisor of Elections.

These Rules and Procedures have been gazetted, as required by law, and are now publicly available. The Electoral Commission has already briefed Media Organisations on these Rules and Procedures to ensure they are fully informed of the new framework.

In addition, the Electoral Commission will continue developing its procedures for non-adjudicative functions, which will be published on the Commission’s website once they are finalised.

This marks the first time the Electoral Commission has developed and published a comprehensive set of Rules and Procedures, reinforcing its commitment to transparency, consistency, and accountability in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities.

We encourage all stakeholders to familiarise themselves with these Rules and Procedures once they are published. The Electoral Commission remains committed to engaging openly with all stakeholders as we continue to enhance the integrity and transparency of Fiji’s electoral system.

Thank you, and Vinaka Vakalevu.
