Ni Sa Bula vinaka,
Today marks the beginning of your journey as guardians of electoral knowledge in your communities. The Electoral Commission views this programme as essential to our constitutional mandate – because we understand that strong democratic institutions mean nothing without citizens who know how to use them. Your work will bridge that gap.
Through this training, you will gain the tools to translate election processes into everyday understanding. You will learn to navigate the delicate balance between encouraging participation and maintaining absolute neutrality. Most importantly, you will discover how your unique position within communities can strengthen our entire electoral system.
Each task you undertake whether it is answering questions or providing information – contributes to something greater. Collectively, these actions fortify our democracy against misinformation, apathy, and exclusion. You are democracy’s first line of defense in your communities.
Your Electoral Commission stands fully behind this programme and is committed to ensuring you have the support needed to succeed. Your success is our success. Your challenges are our challenges. We are partners in this vital work.
I encourage you to fully embrace this training. Ask questions. Share concerns. Learn from each other. The knowledge you gain here will empower you to empower others.
Remember, free and fair elections require more than just legal systems and procedures. They require citizens who understand their rights and are confident in exercising them. You will help create these conditions.
Thank you for your service to your community. We wish you every success in your role as a CEA.
Vinaka vakalevu.
