Ni Sa Bula Vinaka,
As Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, I am privileged to launch a programme that strengthens the very foundation of our electoral system – citizen participation.
The Electoral Commission’s mandate under the 2013 Constitution is to ensure free, fair, and credible elections. While we set policies and provide oversight, we recognize that elections are not conducted in offices or meeting rooms. They happen in communities, in homes, in the spaces where citizens make decisions about their democratic participation.
The Community Election Advocate or CEA Programme represents a critical evolution in how we fulfill our constitutional duty. By establishing trained, neutral advocates within communities, we create an additional layer of electoral integrity – one built on trust, accessibility, and local knowledge.
To our CEAs: You are becoming part of Fiji’s electoral infrastructure. Just as we have systems for voter registration, ballot security, and vote counting, you represent our system for ensuring every citizen has access to accurate electoral information. Your political neutrality is not just a requirement – it is a safeguard of our democracy.
As you begin this journey, remember that you carry the responsibility of maintaining public trust in our electoral system. Every interaction you have and every piece of information you share contributes to the credibility of Fiji’s democracy.
Your Electoral Commission stands firmly behind you and looks forward to seeing the positive impacts of your advocacy across our nation.
May your work strengthen our democracy for generations to come.
Vinaka vakalevu.
